Park City, nello Utah, ospita il Sundance Film Festival 2015, rassegna cinematografica statunitense creata nel 1978 e cresciuta a tal punto che oggi viene considerata all’unanimità il festival di cinema indipendente più importante al mondo. L’edizione di quest’anno si svolge dal 22 gennaio al 1° febbraio 2015 e oltre alla proiezione dei film in concorso (e fuori concorso) nelle varie sezioni, prevede anche eventi che riguardano la musica, l’arte e altre attività.
I film in programma al Sundance Film Festival 2015 sono quasi 200 suddivisi in ben 14 sezioni, dalle più conosciute U.S. Dramatic, World Dramatic, Premieres, Sundance Kids e Spotlight a quelle maggiormente ancorate alla tradizione indipendente e ‘alternativa’ del festival come NEXT e New Frontier.
Più in basso trovate l’elenco completo dei film, ma volendo dare subito un’occhiata qua e là tra i titoli partiamo dalla Premieres, la sezione fuori concorso che presenta 18 prime mondiali di grande prestigio, dove ci sono probabilmente le pellicole che più interessano al pubblico mainstream: tra queste A Walk in the Woods, con Robert Redford (fondatore del Sundance Institute, l’organizzazione no-profit che dal 1984 organizza il festival), Nick Nolte, Emma Thompson e Mary Steenburgen, Brooklyn, con Saoirse Ronan e Domhnall Gleeson, Experimenter, con Peter Sarsgaard e Winona Ryder, Last Days in the Desert, con Ewan McGregor nella parte di Gesù Cristo, Mississippi Grind, con Ryan Reynolds, Ben Mendelsohn e Sienna Miller, e infine True Story con Jonah Hill, James Franco (protagonista anche di I Am Michael) e Felicity Jones.
Nella sezione World Dramatic c’è anche un po’ di Italia con Cloro, opera prima di Lamberto Sanfelice con Sara Serraiocco, Ivan Franek e Giorgio Colangeli, in cui la protagonista è una diciassettenne ragazza di Ostia che sogna di diventare una nuotatrice di nuoto sincronizzato ma che la morte della madre costringe a prendersi cura del padre malato e del fratellino di nove anni.
Gli altri film più interessanti di questa sezione sono Homesick della regista norvegese Anne Sewitsky, l’australiano Partisan con Vincent Cassel, Slow West, un western con Michael Fassbender, e Strangerland, con Nicole Kidman e Joseph Fiennes nel ruolo di due genitori in ansia per la scomparsa dei due figli adolescenti nel deserto australiano.
Nella U.S. Dramatic grande attesa invece per Z for Zachariah, con Chiwetel Ejiofor, Margot Robbie e Chris Pine, I Smile Back di Adam Salky, Results con Guy Pearce, il claustrofobico The Stanford Prison Experiment, basato sull’esperimento condotto realmente nel 1971 da Philip Zimbardo su 24 studenti che vennero chiusi nello scantinato di un’università per inscenare un gioco sociale tra guardie e carcerati, e infine The Witch, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl e People, Places, Things. Da non sottovalutare inoltre The D Train, con Jack Black e James Marsden, The Diary of a Teenage Girl, con Alexander Skarsgaard e Kristen Wiig, e The Overnight con Jason Schwartzman.
