Lo Staples Center di Los Angeles ha ospitato nella notte i Grammy Awards 2016 e i vincitori più acclamati della ‘music’s biggest night’ sono stati Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, Kendrick Lamar, Ed Sheeran, i Muse e gli Alabama Shakes, mentre Kendrick Lamar, che partiva dall’invidiabile posizione di 11 nomination, ha sì vinto 5 premi ma tutti circoscritti nelle categorie riservate al rap. La 58^ edizione dei Grammys, condotta da LL Cool J, è stata inoltre contraddistinta dalla numerosa serie di tributi agli artisti scomparsi di recente: Lady Gaga per esempio, accompagnata dalla magica chitarra di Nile Rodgers, ha reso omaggio a David Bowie cantando un medley di canzoni del Duca Bianco, ma durante la serata sono stati ricordati anche Lemmy Kilmister, Glenn Frey degli Eagles e Maurice White degli Earth, Wind & Fire. C’è stato anche un tributo per Lionel Richie che però, per sua fortuna, è ancora vivo e vegeto.

Dicevamo di Taylor Swift: la bionda popstar ha vinto come Album of the Year (prima artista donna nella storia a vincere due volte questa categoria, la precedente nel 2010 con Fearless) e Best Pop Vocal Album per 1989 e Best Music Video con Bad Blood, portando addirittura a 10 il totale dei Grammy Awards vinti in carriera. Non male per una cantante di soli 26 anni!
La categoria più ambita, però, quella che premia il Record of the Year, se la sono aggiudicata Mark Ronson & Bruno Mars con Uptown Funk, il vero grande tormentone internazionale degli ultimi 12 mesi. Il pezzo è sto premiato anche come Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, mentre un altro brano uscito trionfatore dai Grammy Awards 2016 è risultato Thinking Out Loud di Ed Sheeran, votato come Song of the Year e Best Pop Solo Performance. Nelle categorie rock e alternative si sono invece imposti gli Alabama Shakes (ben tre premi grazie al brano Don’t Wanna Fight e all’album Sound & Color) e i Muse, insigniti del riconoscimento per il miglior album rock dell’anno con Drones.
Gloria anche per il super progetto Skrillex + Diplo che ha dominato le categorie Dance/Electronic e per The Weeknd, che si è portato a casa il premio come Best R&B Performance per Earned It, canzone tratta dalla colonna sonora di Cinquanta Sfumature di Grigio.
Infine Meghan Trainor è stata scelta come Best New Artist, Ricky Martin ha vinto il Best Latin Pop Album, Angelique Kidjo il Best World Music Album e il docufilm Amy, sulla vita di Amy Winehouse, il Best Music Film.
Per quanto riguarda invece le performance live andate in scena sul palco dello Staples Center, che sono da sempre uno dei pezzi forti dei Grammy Awards, oltre a Lady Gaga con il medley di David Bowie, si sono esibiti tra gli altri anche Taylor Swift con Out of the Woods, The Weeknd, Ellie Goulding con Rise Up e Love Me Like You Do, Stevie Wonder con i Pentatonix, Justin Bieber in versione biondo platino insieme a Diplo e Skrillex, gli Hollywood Vampires (Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp e Joe Perry degli Aerosmith) con As Bad as I Am e Ace of Spades dei Motorhead e Adele con il brano All I Ask, penalizzata però nella sua performance da una serie di fastidiosi problemi tecnici.
